SEO Keywords for Air Duct Cleaning Companies

This post was last updated September 14th, 2026.

Here is why the right SEO keywords for air duct cleaning companies matter more than ever. Ahrefs click distribution data for “air duct cleaning” shows that out of every 100 searches, 40 people click only an organic result, 8 click only a paid ad, 6 click both, and 46 click nothing at all.

Add those up and organic results are involved in 46 of the clicks while paid ads are involved in 14. For every homeowner who clicks an ad, more than three click an organic listing. You can buy the smaller share, or you can earn the larger one.

The searches that end without a click are worth sitting with too. Nearly half of them are being answered on the results page itself, in an AI overview or a map pack, without anyone visiting a website. That is why showing up in Google Maps and in AI recommendations now matters as much as ranking in the traditional results.

Here at MarketKeep, we help duct cleaning companies get in front of homeowners in all three places. Below are our recommendations for 2026, along with how to turn each list into pages on your website.

How We Built These Air Duct Cleaning Keyword Lists

Every keyword below came from Google Keyword Planner, the free research tool inside Google Ads. It reports search volume from Google itself rather than a third-party estimate.

Here is how we built these lists:

  1. We pulled the top performing keywords across three searches: air duct cleaning, dryer vent cleaning, and duct sealing.
  2. We limited results to the United States, since including global data inflates volumes with searches from markets you will never serve.
  3. We used the most recent full twelve months, August 2025 through July 2026, which is the complete year available as of this writing.
  4. We combined all three exports into a single list of 1,696 unique keywords, then removed manufacturer and retailer names, parts and materials like hoses, covers, lint traps, brushes, and mastic, DIY how-to searches, and job and licensing queries. We also stripped electrical conduit sealing terms, which look similar in a keyword tool but belong to an entirely different trade.
  5. We assigned every remaining keyword to exactly one category. Anything naming a dryer or laundry went to dryer vent cleaning. Anything naming sealing or leaks went to duct sealing. Everything else went to air duct cleaning.

That last step is what separates these lists from most duct cleaning keyword lists you will find. When you pull these categories separately, they overlap badly. Dryer vent cleaning showed up in the air duct export at 201,000 searches. Vent cleaning near me showed up in both. Build pages straight from raw exports and you end up with several pages chasing the same term, competing with each other instead of with the company across town.

Why These Tables Have Fewer Rows Than Most Keyword Lists

There is one more thing you should know before reading the tables, because it affects every keyword list you will ever pull.

Keyword Planner groups close variants together and reports a single volume for the whole group. Duct cleaning near me, vent cleaning near me, and ducting cleaning near me all show 90,500 searches at minus 18%. That is not three keywords with identical demand. It is one group of searches displayed three times.

Most keyword lists, including earlier versions of this one, repeat that number on every variant. It makes a list look twice as big as it is, and it produces bad math when you start adding volumes together. We list each group once, with its variants in their own column, so every number in these tables is a real search volume you can add up without double counting.

That is how 80 keywords become 44 rows. The variants still matter for writing, since they tell you the different ways homeowners describe the same job, so use them in your copy. Just do not count them twice when you are deciding what to build.

What We Filtered Out

Manufacturer and retailer names. Someone searching a brand is comparing equipment, not looking for a contractor.

Parts and materials. Hoses, covers, lint traps, brushes, mastic, and duct seal putty. The putty is worth naming specifically: terms like 1 lb duct seal and white duct seal look like duct sealing demand, but that product is what an electrician uses around conduit. Different trade, same words.

Ductwork itself. Air duct, hvac ducts, ac duct, and ac air duct are people buying or researching duct materials, not hiring someone to clean them.

Electrical conduit sealing terms. These look similar in a keyword tool but belong to an entirely different trade.

DIY how-to searches, job listings, and licensing queries.

Non-US phrasing. Air con cleaners is how people search in the UK, Australia, and Singapore. It appears in a US-limited export because Keyword Planner groups close variants.

One term worth calling out. Dryer cleaner near me reported 673,000 searches a month, which would have been the biggest number in this article by a wide margin. It is almost certainly Keyword Planner grouping it with dry cleaner near me, meaning people looking for somewhere to clean a suit. We left it out, and if you see it at the top of someone else’s duct cleaning keyword list, now you know what happened.

Turning Air Duct Cleaning Keywords Into Pages on Your Site

Start at the top and you will notice most of this category is declining. Duct cleaning near me is down 18%, air duct cleaning services down 33%, air duct cleaning companies down 45%. One likely explanation is that broad searches are moving to AI assistants and answer boxes, which fits the 46 out of 100 searches that end without a click, though nobody outside Google can confirm that directly. What holds up is the term with the most specific wording: air duct cleaning itself is up 22%. Notice the split between HVAC and AC phrasing, with hvac duct cleaning at 8,100 and ac duct cleaning at 9,900.

Those are the same job described two ways, and most companies use only one of them across their site, so work both into your service page copy along with the vent wording in the near me group. Cost is the cluster worth its own page: air duct cleaning cost and its variants pull 9,900 searches a month with medium advertiser competition and a homeowner who has already decided to hire someone. [Of the page-one results we checked for that term in Columbia, only X of Y published a price range], which is why a page with an honest number is one of the easiest pages to win in this trade.

The Dryer Vent Service Page Most Companies Are Missing

This category behaves differently from air ducts, and the difference is worth building around. A large share of these searches are not about cleaning at all: installing new dryer vent, fixing dryer vent, changing dryer vent, roof dryer vent, interior dryer vent, exterior dryer vent. Those are homeowners with a venting problem, not a cleaning schedule, and a dryer vent installation, rerouting, and repair page is a page most duct cleaning companies do not have. One caution before you build it.

Several of these terms carry high advertiser competition and phrasing that could belong to someone buying a vent kit rather than hiring an installer, so search three or four of them yourself first, and if the first page comes back as Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Amazon, treat that term as a blog topic instead of a service page. The vent location terms are the ones most likely to hold up, because a roof vent, an interior vent, and an exterior wall vent are three different jobs at three different prices, and a page addressing each speaks to someone who already knows which they have. On the cleaning side, dryer vent cleaning cost and its variants sit at 4,400 with flat year over year change, making pricing the most stable demand in this category. And dryer cleaning services near me is up 49% with low advertiser competition, the strongest growth in the table and the clearest hire-intent term in it.

Why Duct Sealing Deserves a Page Even Though the Volume Is Small

Be honest about the size of this one. Duct sealing tops out at 12,100 searches and most of this table sits under 1,000 a month. That is not a reason to skip it. Duct sealing services is up 116% with low advertiser competition, and duct cleaning and sealing is up 556%, which suggests homeowners are beginning to search for the two services together rather than separately. That combination is the opening, because if you offer both, a single page targeting cleaning and sealing as a package answers a search almost nobody has built for.

The percentages on the smallest rows deserve a caveat: 556% growth on 140 searches a month is a handful of extra people, not a market shift, so treat the direction as the signal rather than the number. Include the cost terms as well, since duct sealing cost and its variants all carry low advertiser competition. And notice seal air ducts from inside, which appears three ways in this table. That is a homeowner researching a specific method, and a page explaining how interior duct sealing works, what it costs, and when it makes sense catches them at the moment they are deciding whether to call someone.

How Air Duct Cleaning Companies Rank in the Towns They Serve

Knowing which keywords to target is one thing. Knowing where to put them is where the difference gets made.

In the video below I pull up the search results for air duct cleaning in Columbia, Maryland, and walk through two companies appearing on the first page of search, how they scaled that across a dozen towns, and the one mistake that will get you buried for trying.

I chose Columbia deliberately, because larger markets like Baltimore, Philadelphia, or Los Angeles fill up with businesses headquartered in the city and local directories. As a duct cleaning company you probably want to learn how to target multiple cities and counties anyway, and this video gives you the playbook.

Breaking Down How The First Page of Search Results Actually Works

At the top sit Local Service Ads, marked with the Google Guaranteed badge. That is paid. Below that are standard Google Ads. Also paid.

Then comes the Google map pack, showing three businesses ranked largely on your Google Business Profile, your proximity to the searcher, and your reviews.

Underneath all of that are the first eight organic results. That is where your keywords do their work, and it is worth remembering the click data from the top of this article: out of 100 people searching, 40 click only an organic result and 8 click only an ad.

Where T&D Ducts and Regal Duct Cleaning Place Their Keywords

The keyword here is not air duct cleaning on its own. It is air duct cleaning in Columbia. Taking the service and turning it into a long-tail keyword by adding a location is what gets a page onto the first page of search results.

T&D Ducts places that phrase in the meta title and the meta description. Click through and it appears in the H1, the first paragraph, several subheadings, and a few more times in the body copy.

Regal Duct Cleaning does the same with a slight variation, targeting air duct cleaning services in Columbia. Meta title, meta description, H1, first paragraph, multiple subheadings, and the URL slug itself.

When one company ranks this way it is one thing. When every company on the first page does it, it is a repeatable pattern, and repeatable patterns are winnable.

How To Rank An Air Duct Cleaning Company in More Than One Town

So how do you scale that?

Every service you offer needs its own page. Air duct cleaning gets a page. Dryer vent cleaning gets a page. Duct sealing gets a page. One keyword per page, used correctly throughout the structure of that page.

Then you apply the same approach to each market you serve.

Take Regal Duct Cleaning’s domain, go to Google, and type site: followed by the web address. You will see every page Google has indexed. They have built pages targeting air duct cleaning and dryer vent cleaning in Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Germantown, Odenton, Olney, Bowie, Potomac, Cockeysville, and Towson, running to roughly eight pages of search results.

That is how a local company expands its footprint well beyond the town it operates from.

The Mistake That Gets Duplicate Town Pages Buried

Here is where most companies get it wrong, and it’s why I spent a lot of time going over this in the video above.

In April 2026, Danny Sullivan of Google spoke at Search Central Live in Toronto about what he called unique, authentic, and specific creating what is called non-commodity content. Search Engine Roundtable covered the talk, and the criteria he laid out were specific. Your content needs to be unique, authentic, and specific.

Unique meaning that it brings a viewpoint or information that others lack and cannot easily replicate.
Specific in a way that talks about a particular instance or situation, not general rules and generic steps.
Authentic, meaning it demonstrates firsthand knowledge or expertise.

Now think about how most areas-we-serve pages get built. Someone writes one page, duplicates it a dozen times, and swaps the town name.

That is commodity content by Google’s own definition, and in 2026 it does not just fail to help. It actively hurts. We have watched sites go from nearly 1,300 daily visitors to 147 after publishing service pages at scale without asking whether any of them said something only that company could say.

The page count goes up. The visitors go down.

How to Build Location Pages That Actually Rank

Build the pages, but earn each one.

Follow the fundamentals: structure your keyword correctly, use schema markup so search engines can parse your content, and make sure the page loads quickly.

Then give each page non-commodity content. The jobs you have completed in that town. Photos from those jobs. The housing stock and how it affects ductwork, because a 1960s rancher in Glen Burnie has different ducts than a townhome in Odenton. What you charged and what you found.

If you cannot write something specific about a town, you probably should not have a page for it yet.
