Are you selecting the right keywords for SEO purposes?

At MarketKeep we are always asked how we select our keywords for SEO. As a digital marketing agency, we are happy to share with you, because selecting the right keyword for SEO is tricky! In order to fully understand that though we need to make sure we all understand what SEO is.

SEO in our opinion is a two step process. First your customer needs to use their computer, smartphone, or tablet to find answers to their questions, or products online. The second part is crucial, positioning your website in a way to acquire those searches organically.

Seems pretty simple right? Now let us put that into a real life example. In the month of August, the weather in Maryland can be extremely muggy. Temperatures hover around 90 degrees Fahrenheit and it becomes not only unbearable for us but also our pets as well. That is why searches for “pet grooming near Towson” actually spike during the summer months. Now as digital marketers we understand this, and we need to make sure that our website is ready to say hey we are a pet grooming store near Towson!

The most important thing we can do is recognize that how we structure our site, and the content within the pages of our website will dictate whether we show up in the Local Listings underneath Google Maps, the top eight organic search results on the first page, or the 4th search result on the 4th page of Google! Now based on how we structure our site and the content of our website, Google along with SERPs Bing and Yahoo, they will rank your website based on the following factors:

  • Business Signals (19% of your total score)
  • Link Signals (17% of your total score)
  • On-Page Signals (14% of your total score)
  • Citation Signals (13% of your total score)
  • Review Signals (13% of your total score)
  • Behavioral Signals (10% of your total score)
  • Personalization (10$ of your total score)
  • Social Signals (4% of your total score)

So when Google, Bing, and Yahoo go to index your website, based on your site structure and the content on the website this will determine your overall ranking!
