Keywords in Digital Marketing

Search Engine Optimization: Search Engine Optimization is the practice of optimizing websites to make them reach a high position in Google – or another search engine’s – search results. SEO focuses on rankings in the organic (non-paid) search results. In order for your website to rank well, your website must encompass both the technical and creative elements required to improve rankings, drive traffic, and increase awareness of your website within search engines.

Keyword: Words and phrases that searchers enter into search engines, also referred to as search queries.

Long Tail Keywords: A phrase that contains at least three words. Used to target niche demographics rather than mass audiences. Long Tail Keywords are more specific and often less competitive than generic keyword terms.

Meta Tag Title: Bits of HTML Code in the header of a web page. They help search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing to understand the content of a page. The Meta Tag Title of a page is usually shown whenever that page appears in a search engine result.

Meta Tag Description: The 160 to 320 character snippet used to summarize a web page’s content. The Meta Tag Description is separate from the page itself. Along with the Meta Tag Title of the page, the meta tag description is often shown whenever the page appears in a search result engine.

H1 Tag: The code used to describe the title of a post or page. In addition to an h1 tag a post or page can also have a h2 tag, h3 tag, h3 tag, h5 tag, and a h6 tag. The importance of each tag goes in descending order.

XML Sitemap: A file that lists the URLs for a website. It is the roadmap for how search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing will read & navigate your website.

Index Website: Indexing the contents of a website with the search engines Google, yahoo, and Bing.

Link Building: The process of acquiring hyperlinks from pages within your websites and other websites referring back to your website.
